The Producers

The Prairie Fresh Food Corporation began in December 2013 with 16 Saskatchewan vegetable producers becoming shareholders. To date the PFFC has a total of 24 vegetable and fruit producers with 18 active shareholders in Saskatchewan and 6 active shareholders in Alberta.

Vegetable Farming on the Prairies

About 80 per cent of Canada's farmland is located in the Prairie provinces.

Commercial vegetable & fruit production on the Canadian Prairies is a diverse industry. Operations range in size from small market gardens growing an assortment of vegetables to large commercial farms producing specific vegetables & fruits.

The types and varieties of vegetable crops grown and the practices used vary from operation to operation and region to region. To be successful, producer growers need to follow effective production practices and sound business management practices.
